When will the old iPads be replaced?

When will the old iPads be replaced?

Q1.  When will the old iPads (ipad 2’s) be replaced?

A1.   They already were.  When PLTW was selected for elementary science,  the science curriculum also purchased new ipads for the elementaries.   They also allowed classrooms to continue to keep the older iPad 2’s and classrooms could use them until the devices die.

Q2.  My classroom has some iPad 2’s – they are not working, will the techs help repair them?
A2.  Yes, submit a ticket with the techs and they will send them out for repair.  If its a hardware related issue, chances are that it can be fixed. If the issue is software related (your apps won’t update any longer), we are not able to fix that issue – as Apple has stopped supporting the software on iPad 2s.

Q3.  So if I have older iPads – I can keep using them if they work?   What if I don’t want them anymore – will someone else dispose of them for me?

A3.  Yes, if you’re older iPads still work for what you need, you are welcome to continue to use them.   If you want the techs to dispose of them, just open a ticket with the techs and they will remove and dispose of them.

Q4. I’m at the secondary level and I have several iPads –   when will they be updated/replaced and who will be doing that?

A4.  Whoever purchased your original devices gets to decide if/when they will be replaced.

Q5.  I’ve heard that elementary PLTW science materials may soon be available for use on Chromebooks.  Is that true? Does that mean we use student chromebooks for PLTW instead of iPads? What happens to their existing iPads?

A5.   We’ve also heard that PLTW is moving their elementary science materials to work on student chromebooks – however, its not fully available yet.   Yes, once it is available on student chromebooks, there will likely be a discussion about moving the existing iPads to the younger grade levels.
