iPads in the Classroom

This summer, West Des Moines Community Schools will continue to offer professional development related to the usage of iPads in the classroom.  These specific classes do not include the distribution of additional iPads – only the training.

This class is for those teachers who already have an iPad to use in the classroom (either a school purchased or even a personal iPad), but haven’t been through any type of formal training.  It’s a great way to earn credit and learn more about your iPad and its uses in the classroom.

Can this course be taken for PD and Drake University credit?
Yes…it may be taken for Drake, PD or no credit.  It’s entirely up to you.  There is no cost associated with PD credit, however, if you would like to take it for Drake credit, the cost will be $110, due at the start of the class.

Is there an iPad I can borrow for the class?
Sorry, there are no loaner iPads available for the class – you must bring your own.

I don’t have a school provided iPad, but I have a personal iPad from home – can I bring it?
YES !  you are welcome to bring any personal or school provided iPad.

When will the next course be offered where the district provide iPads with the course?
At this time, we do not have any additionally schedule iPad deployment courses.

3 sessions of teacher laptop course being offered this summer

3 sessions of the teacher laptop course are being offered this summer.

It’s a 15 hour professional development course that is open to any certified staff as well as any supervisor/specialist. The course can be taken for either PD credit (teacher license renewal) or Drake University credit.

During the course, you’ll receive an HP laptop and hands-on training for how to image, setup and manage your laptop. You’ll also receive training on applications such as Office and Skype. Staff are full administrators of their devices – meaning they can decide what software to install on their device, as well as select the network drives and printers that they need. Currently, about 70% of our staff have taken the course – and based on this, we anticipate that three additional sections over the summer should address the remaining need.
