Student Accounts for 11-12

Q1. Are students computer accounts being run by Infinite Campus this year? or do the buildings manually control the student accounts?
A1.  Students accounts will continue to be run automatically by the information in Infinite Campus.  Several times each day, the system looks to Infinite Campus for new students and/or changes to existing students – and then automatically handles the updates to the student accounts.

Q2.  What is the format of the accounts?
A2.  Same format as last year…    First Initial of First Name (or first initial of nickname, if available), First Initial of Last Name, then student number.

Example:  Will Doe, but goes by Bill Doe, so Bill is listed in his nickname field.  Student number is 12345.

His user id is therefore:    bd12345,  If he doesn’t have Bill listed in the nickname field, then his id would be wd12345.

Q3. What would the students password be?
A3.  Student passwords have been reset to match their unique user id.   Once they log in, the system will require students to change their password.

Q4. If they were a student last year – do they still have the same files in their H drive?
A4. Students who moved from 6th grade to 7th grade are starting over with new, blank H drives.  However, all other students who had accounts last year, were allowed to carry over their files from last year.

Q5.  Do student have quotas or maximum limits on their H drive?
A5. Yes, both staff and students have quotas or max limits on their H drives – however, the limits are set high enough that very, very few staff or students will encounter the limit.

Q6 . How often are accounts made/updated?  In other words – a new student walks in the building, when can they use their account?
A6.  Accounts are process every 5 hours.  In most cases, it will be the next day before all accounts are properly processed.

Calling 9-911 for emergencies from school

Can’t I just call 911?  Why 9 -911?
You need to dial 9 first in order to get an outside line

I’ve heard that it takes time for a 9-911 call to go through.
Yes, this is true for all phone calls , but when there’s an emergency and you’re in a hurry, it certainly seems longer.  Please let the call go through.  We’ve seen cases when individuals have hung up and tried again –  please stay on the line to let it connect.

Can I call 9-911 from my classroom?  I’ve heard that it sets alarms off in our school office and at the LRC.
If any student or adult is in a dangerous or potentially harmful situation, then YES, you should call 9-911 from your room.    And, yes, dialing 9-911 will set off an alarm at your school office and at the LRC.    These alarms help alert others of an emergency so that additional assistance can be provided.

What if the LRC calls and asks the office if there’s an emergency –  and we don’t know?
This is OK; in fact, it’s also very likely to happen.  When you dial  9-911,  the dispatcher will keep you on the phone until help has arrived – they will not ask you to hang-up.  Therefore, you don’t have the ability to dial anyone else for help. That’s why we’ve set an alarm to trigger in the office.

I’ve seen another number posted for emergencies that won’t set off the alarm in the office.  Should I use that number?
It’s best to use 9-911 in an emergency because those calls have priority at the dispatch center and the operators automatically are shown the address of your building.
