Preparing for Smarter Balanced Testing

2015-2016 is the last year for Iowa Assessments and we’re expecting to move to Smarter Balanced testing in the spring of 2017.  At that time, all testing will be done on-line and it’s estimated that students will spend approximately 3 hours total for the on-line portion of the test.

Moving to on-line testing will present us with some logistical issues, such as: concerns about infrastructure, bandwidth, and how to schedule our existing resources to ensure that testing can be completed in a short time frame.

This winter, we’ll be pulling together a small group to start looking at the building level logistics that are needed to prepare for Smarter Balanced testing.  If you’re a WDMCS staff member interested in helping out with this planning, send an email to Brian Abeling.

Everything you need to know about Printed Student Directories

Each fall, schools are working on their printed student directories, which are typically handled by a volunteer or parent group.  Here’s the basics of what you need to know about printed student directories…

Questions that we typically hear from parents………………………….

Q1.  I want my child/family information removed from the directory, how do I do that?
A1.   Call your child’s school office ask to be on the “Do Not Release” list – and the school office can go into each child’s record and mark the check box for DO NOT RELEASE and your child’s name and your family information will not be released in the printed directories.

Q2.  I want my child listed in the directory, but I want to edit what information is provided for our family…
