The Internet attacks…

What was the end result or cause of the Internet attacks several weeks ago?
It was a dynamic denial of service (dDOS) attack.  Specifically, it was a new version of an NTP amplification attack.

So, we were the only people impacted?
No… in fact, many sites globally were involved, see the map below.

What destination were they trying to get into? Was there a specific destination or service they were trying to crack into?
For our specific situation, the attack was against our Internet connection – so they there was no attempt to break into or crack into any information system. Instead, it was simply a malicious attack that’s goal was to be annoying – and it succeeded.

Is everything back to normal?
Yes, by mid spring break, the attacks had been contained and our internet access was back normal and has remained normal since.

 

Planned Phone Outages over Winter Break

Over winter break there will be some planned outages of several key systems including telephones and Safari Montage.

Planned Telephone System Outages………………………………………

On Monday, Dec 23rd, between 8am and 12noon, the following sites will NOT have telephone services:

• Clive
• Crestview
• Crossroads Park
• Fairmeadows
• Hillside
• Indian Hills
• Jordan Creek

On Monday, Dec 23rd, between 12noon and 5PM the following sites will NOT have telephone services:

• Phenix
• Stilwell
• Valley
• Valley Southwoods
• Walnut Creek
• Western Hills
• Westridge

On Tuesday, Dec 24th from 8am to 12noon, the following sites will be without phone services:

• LRC
• Operations

Safari Montage planned outage………………………………

On Thursday, Dec 26th, there will be a planned outage of the Safari Montage system that provides video content for our classrooms.  The outage will last all day on the 26th.
